ICANN (The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) is responsible for managing the internet’s domain name system, including IP address space allocation. If you have internet and have an email account then you have been touched by ICANN. ICANN was the late Jon Postel’s creation during the later part of 1998. He came to this in response to the policy statement issued by the US Department of Commerce. This policy statement called for the formation of a not-for-profit Internet stakeholder from the private sector to administer policy for the Internet name and address system.

There are nineteen board of Directors, nine are At-Large Directors positions who serve a one year term, and will be succeeded by At-Large Directors elected by an at-large membership, and in addition the President/CEO. Since its development in the fall of 1998, many controversial issues have developed over the years, which have been handled with dignity and professionalism. ICANN’s President is responsible for his staff which is located on three continents, who absolutely confirm that ICANN is organized and its loyalty is to the Internet community.

The ICANN organization is an internationally non-profit corporation that has the responsibility for Internet Protocol (IP) address space allocation, protocol identifier assignment, generic (gTLDO), and country code (ccTLD) Top-Level Domain name system management, and root server system management functions. Originally this service was executed by the U.S. Government contract by the IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority). ICANN took over the function that the IANA completed.

You may ask: “What is a domain name?”, actually the Domain Name System (DNA) assists computer users to find their way within the Internet. Each computer has a unique internet address and ICANN assigns the user an address and every website must also have a unique address. The Domain names can be registered with many kinds of companies; these companies compete with one another. All the companies are in a Registrar Directory. When choosing a registrar they will ask you to supply different types of contact and technical information. The registry provides other computers on the Internet the information that you need to find the web site that you want or allows you to send and retrieve email. It is much easier for people to remember names than a succession of numbers. For example the IP address 83.82.222.387 is not as memorable as www.Momandpopdinner.com.

Country code is shown as a two letter domain, for example .uk, .de and .jp, they are top-level domains (ccTLDs) and correspond with each country, geographic location, or other territory. There are more than 200 national or country codes for IP addresses. The primary objective is to ensure the stability of the Internet’s system of the assigned names and numbers.

Another responsibility of ICANN is introducing and implementing a procedure that the registrar accreditation who would arrange transitions to a reasonable domain name.
In order to arrange for a domain name you need to become accredited through ICANN. The Shared Registration System (”SRS”) is a domain name registration system for competitive registrars in the .com, .net, and .org top-level domains. SRS was introduced in the spring of 1999 through the initiative of the United States Department of Commerce under an amendment to its collaborative agreement with Network Solutions, Inc. When using this registration system the domain names utilize one shared registry that is commanded by NSI (Network Solutions, Inc.). Currently there are no limits to the number of registrars that may register names by using SRS. Every business that desires to become a registrar in the .com, .net, and .org domains are essential to be accredited by ICANN.

The Land Rush period of time starts on February 20, accompanied by the Go-Live, DotAsia’s first-come, first-served enrollment process on Mar 26, 2008.
Up to now, the register lets already accepted across 50,000 application quests on their Sunrise phases and DotAsia expects up to one million enrollments within the first year of functionings.

The .Asia extension allows persons and companies to aim the greatest online community in the world likewise as people searching for relevant data about Asia. .Asia domains come along as model.asia and will act just alike .com domains.

The Asia/Pacific economic system, which crosses from Republic of Turkey to Japan, is place to many more than 65% of the Earth population. In business concern, we admit the conception of “placement, placement, placement” as following the central key to achiever. Domain name(s) bring that role on the cyberspace. Name it the “Google element”: with “(dot) ,Asia” inward the domain name, keyword explores will create higher relevancy, whether its `packing’ and `Asia,’ or `appliances’ and `Asia’–truly anything.

In place to be titled for an .ASIA domain, leastways among the Domain contacts associated on the Domain Name(s) must be an real and actual valid entity inwards the DotAsia Community - which admits more than seventy nations.

And when you register a .asia name, you will have a few good rewards like:

Virtually assured to get the domain name you genuinely require as .asia abides by an auction pattern once there are 2 or more applicants for the same name.

Improve your opportunities of ranking good inside the search engines since Asia is a natural word.

Afford yourself to 100s of 1000000s of internet users. Much a third of the global web users are placed in Asia.

Indicate your presence in among the fastest developing markets in the globe.

Take from a riches of accessible names.

Currently, online users in the PanAsia and Asia Pacific Ocean area just accept the alternative of applying a general TLD (gTLD) whose individuals are commanded by U.S. and European persons and business sector, or nation code TLDs (ccTLDs) that are designated as local use. Accordant to VeriSign Global Register Services , just 12% by .com and .net (the 2 largest gTLDs) individuals arrived from Asia

Landrush

“The .Asia landrush has just begun, and enrollment for the .Asia domain(s) name is at present opened to all persons and companies, disregarding of whether or not they’ve a valid claim thereto. It is essential that companies recognise only how significant it’s to register for their .Asia domain(s) name(s) if they want to make the best of this chance right away or in the time to come,” stated Thomas Herbert, production managing director, Hostway. “On global brand names specified Google investing powerfully in this field - represented by its acquirement of an interest in Chinese social networking web site Tianya - the Asian marketplace is seeing important potential for development at the moment.”

As the biggest top-level domain name issue for several yrs, companies are faced on both an chance and a dispute - anybody who has not yet registered should not waste any longer time - assuming a .Asia name and address is as easy as catching the telephone,” proceeded Herbert.

“The price is minimum especially while you equate it to the price of not recording. Companies who do not register for their domain(s) name(s) are in effect adventuring on their brand name identity, and they could be adventuring expensive and unneeded cybersquatting cases.”

With 66% of the globe population being in the Asia-Pacific area, and across 400 million online users, companies perhaps running a risk their pan-Asian brand name identity if they neglect to registry for their domain(s) name(s). This can effect in the sabotaging of company trademarks and the big-ticket re-acquirement of the name subsequently.

“People do require to mind of informal sellers proposing registrations since they could neglect out, or follow pulled off. This is a big chance for people to make their front as an international entity, but equally on some dealings online, people require to make a point that the provider along the another end is genuine,” ended Herbert.

On the landrush time period the .Asia register will deal every domain name enrollment applications as accepted simultaneously. In the event of among more appliers applying for the equal domain name, apiece applier will be wanted to offer against one another in an auction.

Domain names with just single application will follow granted to the applier. Subsequently a short pause to process applications programme, the live enrollment period of time will start once again on the 26th of Mar where enrollments will be conceived along a first-come-first-served base.

Domain name protection is commonly ignored by newcomers to the website scene, but even though it might seem simple or unnecessary, but hundreds of people lose their domain names due to the lack of proper protection. To avoid having your domain name stolen (the most common type of domain name crime) here are some guidelines you should follow to ensure maximum protection.

OK, so what are the consequences of improper domain name protection? Basically the only thing that can happen with your domain name is having it stolen by someone for whatever reason. It could be a scammer, someone holding a ransom for it, or someone who wants to take them for themselves and benefit from your traffic. After this happens, getting your domain name back is virtually impossible unless you know the contact information of the “new” owner (which can be easily be prevented by him through a “Whois privacy protection plan” of some sort) and taking legal action (which means losing lots of time and money in lawyers, and such). The first thing you should look out for takes place just at the moment of registration of the new domain name, and it has to do with…

Contact information
Ensure all your contact information points to the right individual or organization. For example, if you hired someone to build your whole website for you, he or she might enter his or her contact information when asked to enter the administrative or technical contact. Even though you are registered as the registrant, that person could take control of your domain name simply by contacting the registrar, and because the registrar identifies the person as the administrative or technical contract, they will grant them control. If you had someone register your domain name for you, make sure to instruct them to enter you or your organization as all the contacts.
It’s good to know though if you registered your domain name yourself, then there shouldn’t be a problem.

Expiration dates
Let’s say you started a business a year ago, and now you have to renew your domain name. What if you opted for manual renewing instead of automatic renewing (a common choice among startups, as they tend to test the ground first), and suddenly you don’t receive the renewal notice (either that the email you used was lost, expired, or anything else) and your domain name expires and it gets deleted without you taking that decision? An opportunist may benefit from that situation in order to take your domain name from you!

Email addresses
The last big threat lies in email addresses. You should make sure your email account is “hacker free”, since someone with access to it could have acess to all your accounts and passwords, allowing them to take control of both your domain name and your website, and you don’t want that to happen.

So those are the biggest threads to your domain name security. Be sure to protect yourself in each of those ways, and your website should be secure.

Want to find out what are the internet’s best free domain name tools? Well, you’ve come to the right place. Here’s a list of important domain name tools that will help you search and find the perfect domain name, contact the owner of another domain name, find out stats, page visits, back links, etc. All these tools are really useful on many levels: from finding a domain name, to identifying an illegitimate website. Keep reading to find out the web’s best domain name tools.

Ok, let’s start with domain name lookup tools. While you can use a domain name registrar’s search engine, there are more effective tools that will make the domain name search more effective and user friendly.

PC Names domain name search
PC Names offers a very user friendly interface for searching domain names. You just need to start typing into the search box, and the results will appear as you type for all major domain name extensions. If the domain is available, you have the option to register it immediately, and if it isn’t, then you can do a quick Who Is lookup, that will give you all the information from the owner’s name and email to the Alexa ranking of that domain name.

PC Names Word search tool
It turns out PC Names not only offers the intuitive search method mentioned above, but they also let you search for all available domains containing a word. Let’s say you want a domain name with the word “internet” on it. You type “internet” into the search box, select where you would like it to be placed (beginning, end, or anywhere), select which extensions you would like it to have, and that’s it! You get a list with all the available domain names containing that word. Again, if available, you have the option to register it immediately through the most famous domain name registrars.

PC Names Domain name generator
As if two great tools from PC Names weren’t enough, now let’s talk about their domain name generator. This tool is very important if you’re trying to find a domain name, but have no idea of what to pick. With this tool, all you need to do is enter multiple words you would like your domain name to have, and it will show you the list of available domain names following your criteria.

PC Names Domain Suggest
Yet another tool from PC Names, their domain suggestion tool allows you to get alternatives to the domain you want (if it is taken). Let’s say you wanted cars.com. You enter that into the search box, and then you will receive a list of viable alternatives to that domain.

PC Names (the last one) Traffic Search
The last tool (at least in this article) from PC Names is the traffic search. Basically, it shows recently expired domain names that used to have traffic. This is helpful if you want easy traffic for your website, and it simplifies the search for good domain names with back links ad traffic.

Nameboy
At last, a domain name tool that isn’t from PC Names! Nameboy.com is great if you don’t know what would be a proper domain name. It may resemble PC Name’s domain name generator, except that Nameboy’s tool is much more advanced than that. What you need to do is enter a primary word (for example, if your website is a tech blog, why not enter tech) and a secondary word (reusing the previous example, you would enter blog). Then you select whether you want the domain name to rhyme, and if you allow hyphens, and you will receive a list of available domain names related to your search.

Who.is
As if it weren’t obvious, who.is offers a “who is” search. A who is search shows all the information about the domain name and its owner, from the creation and expiration date of a domain name, to the detailed contact information of the owner. Who.is also offers a domain suggestion service that does pretty much the same job as the others, only that it has some more options to choose from.
Those are the web’s top domain tools. Enjoy!

If you’ve been thinking about getting into the domain name business, or starting your own website, you’ve surely com across the “expired domains” universe. Expired domains can be either a great source of traffic, or an SEO enemy… If you want to find out everything about expired domain names (and their “dark side”) then you shouldn’t miss reading this.

Ok, so you want to know what expired domain names really are. Expired domains are domains that have once been used, but then they weren’t renewed when the time was due. These domain names are very good for starting websites, because you can benefit from the traffic and the back links that domain name use to have. However, there are some details you should be aware of.

Price
Good expired domain names are taken very quickly after they expire. Usually, the registrar puts the domain name on hold, giving the original owner a last chance before it becomes available again. During this period, you can backorder the domain, just to make sure you’ll get it when it expires. However, for hotter domains, you’ll have to bid for it a minimum amount, but that really depends on where you want to get it when it expires.

Traffic
Expired domain names are great traffic sources because even if the previous website was popular or not, you can still benefit from the traffic, because people who used to visit that website will now be arriving to yours after you take the domain name. You also benefit from that domain name’s back links from other websites, because back links list the domain. For example, if the previous owner submitted his website to a bunch of website directories, and whatnot, then those back links become yours (which means less time trying to promote the website.). Also, domain names may have a PR (page rank) history, which can be either really good, or really bad: which brings us to the last thing you should be aware of…

Dark side
Because domain names used to be from another website, when you acquire it you will get the good things (discussed above: traffic, pr, back links, etc.), but you will also get the bad things. Even if the domain name you bought (or are planning to buy) isn’t an expired domain name per se, it doesn’t mean it hasn’t been used before. Essentially, what I’m trying to tell you is that you should always check the history of a domain name. The major threat of buying expired domain names is that it could have been blacklisted by search engines if it was used on a spam website, or the previous owner used black hat SEO techniques to get ranked. Check your domain names history before you buy at Archive.org’s Way Back Machine. If your new domain name was blacklisted, you can make it get listed again by resubmitting it manually to search engines.

That’s all you need to know about expired domain names, just beware of the “dark side”.

Domain names are important to a website of any nature. They are better for SEO, web presence, branding and credibility. A quick search for domain name registrars will show millions of results (literally) so choosing the right one can be a confusing task. On one side, registrars need to be easy and simple to use, but on the other side, they need a good balance of features and price. Because choosing can be difficult, you have here a list of the top five best cheap domain name registrars, each one with their ups and downs. If you want to find out which domain name registrar is perfect for you, then you shouldn’t miss this quick article.

There are thousands of registrars out there, but if what you’re looking for is popularity (which is good if you want to sell your domain name afterwards), performance, reliability and a good price / features balance, then you shouldn’t look further than these five:

1. Go Daddy
Go Daddy is kind of like the Google of domain names. They are the most popular registrar, they have very low prices (around $7 for a .com, .net, and .org domain), and they have a decent array of features. Go Daddy is at the top only because of their popularity, though. Despite their low prices, they are still not the cheapest domain name registrar, and managing your account is quite difficult for beginners.

2. Domainsarefree
Well, no they are not. But they are very cheap if you register them through domainsarefree.com, though. The total cost for a new domain name is $3.99. Is not free like the name says, but you get quite a number of features at no extra charge, such as email forwarding and anti-spam measures. Even if their website design is outdated, know that they are reliable because they are powered by a known webhosting company in the market, Globat.

3. Cheap Domain Names
Unlike Domainsarefree.com, the name isn’t designed to fool you. Cheap-domainnames.com offers domain name registrations from $1.99 (depending on what additional services you pick). It shouldn’t count as a registrar, though, as they offer their domain name registration services through GoDaddy (which means they have all the ups and downs GoDaddy has).

4. Spaceasia.com
SpaceAsia is a very good registrar from China. While it’s not as popular as Go Daddy, they have cheap domain names (.cn, .hk, .tw, .in), and they have a great selection of web hosting, vps hosting and much more.

5. Yahoo
The last one on the list is Yahoo. While they don’t offer the cheapest domains ($10 is their price) they do have great performance and reliability, and they have the best service. With every registration you get email forwarding, complete DNS control, as well as other standard features.

Those are the most popular and recommended cheap domain name registrars. If the price seems high, remember there are others who charge like $30 or more!

Recently, many people have been scammed during the sale of their domain names. Some people have lost barely some bucks, but others have lost hundreds, if not thousands. It doesn’t matter if you are a new or an experienced “domainer” (a person who buys, sells or trades domain names): you are still exposed to the threat. However, there are many ways in which you can protect yourself from fraudulent sales. Keep reading to find out how it that scams work is, and how to prevent them.

If you sell your domain names at websites like Sedo or TDnam, know that your domain is safe with you, because they use a special system called “escrow”, which holds the money and the domain, and exchanges it safely. However, you almost certainly sell your domain at forums, like DNForum, V7n, or Digital Point. Now, how do these scams work?

Scammers create a forum account, then, they hack the system to change their iTrader (similar to eBay’s rating system) and their post count. That way the seller has the impression the scammer is a trusted user. Another way they do this is by hacking into a trusted user’s account. Now, after they had gained the seller’s trust, they use their own, or hack into a PayPal account. Then, they send the payment, and the seller happily transfers the domain name. Everybody is happy! Until… the scammer now contacts PayPal and says he was the one being scammed. Because the sale wasn’t a physical object, PayPal always protects the buyer. A complaint is created, and the seller has the chance to fight back, but in the end, PayPal will always take the buyer’s side. Now, the seller hopes the registrar gives him back his domain, but because the transfer was made successfully, it’s against the rules to take it back. The seller lost his domain, and the money. What can you do to protect yourself?

First off all try to avoid using PayPal. While it’s the quickest and most accepted method out there, they will always take the side of the buyer. The most decent and secure alternative to PayPal is Money Bookers, which works world-wide, and has a low-price escrow service as well as the regular e-mail method. You can also use escrow.com, but their prices are a little higher. Also, you could point your buyers to a listing at Sedo or TDnam, but that sometimes is against forum rules. Use any of these alternative methods, and you should be more protected against fraudulent scams.
That is basically how domain name scams work. If you follow some of the guidelines above, you should be able to protect yourself against scammers. Try Money Bookers: they are a very viable alternative to PayPal, because not only are you able to upload and withdraw money worldwide (unlike PayPal, who doesn’t allow you to withdraw to a bank account worldwide), but they also have a low-priced, secure escrow service. Don’t forget to try Sedo and TDNam as well.
